A life on the ocean wave

Orlando Murrin - Murder Below Deck

If I don’t look very happy in this picture, it’s purely because it’s such a strange, cold, clammy feeling having a crustacean on your head. I needed some new author pictures and when we’d finished, the photographer – Adrian Sherratt – insisted we did an extra one for fun.

Because we wanted the pictures to be outdoors and have a nautical flavour, we drove down to Axmouth, which is a small estuary on the Jurassic Coast. If you don’t know it, this is a 95-mile stretch of Devon and Dorset coastline, named in 2001 in honour of the dinosaurs who roamed it 200 million years ago. Ideally I’d have liked the shoot to be aboard a superyacht – the setting for Murder Below Deck - but security is unbelievably tight aboard such vessels and no one would let us. On the other hand, the book includes a sub-plot involving Paul Delamare and a family of lobsters, to say nothing of a priceless necklace and a Parisian socialite.

If this whets your appetite, the book will be out on 6 March and is available for preorder at all the usual places – click here for a list.

I also hope you’ll check out the rest of this site - not least the home page, www.orlandomurrin.com, which we’ve freshened up in honour of the new book. If you're on your phone or Ipad, try it out on a laptop so you can see the video of Maldemer slicing through the waves. All this is possible, by the way, thanks to my website designer/manager, Heather Brown. If you need anything webby, check out heather-brown.com – she really is a miracle worker.

If I don’t see you before – Happy Christmas to you and all those dear to you.
